Geographic & Tax Considerations

Salaries are directly influenced by the primary residence’s location and the local economic landscape.

Metropolitan vs. Regional Markets: Compensation in high-cost-of-living hubs such as New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco typically reflects the premium salary standards of those areas. Positions in regional markets (e.g., Ohio or the Midwest) may offer base salaries that align with local cost-of-living benchmarks.

State Tax Impact: Take into consideration that states with no state income tax (e.g., Florida, Texas, Wyoming) may reflect slightly lower gross salaries, as the chef’s net take-home pay remains competitive due to the lack of state-level deductions.

Incentives & Career Growth

To reward long-term commitment and exceptional service, most elite placements include structured performance incentives. Note: All incentives and increases are discretionary and negotiated on a per-placement basis.

  • Performance Bonuses: Typically ranging from 7% – 15% of base salary, awarded annually based on performance and client discretion.
  • Annual Adjustments: To reflect growing value to the household and remain competitive with the market, an annual increase of 6% – 8% is a common guideline.
  • Evolving Roles: Compensation is traditionally reviewed if the scope of work expands to include House Management or significant increases in travel and on-call hours.

The Standard Benefits Suite

A professional offer in the UHNW space generally includes a comprehensive package to support your long-term career:

  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement Planning: 401(k) programs, often with employer matching.
  • Paid Time Off: 2–4 weeks of vacation, typically coordinated with the principal’s travel schedule.
