How to create the perfect Private Chef resume

When crafting a resume for a private chef position, it is imperative to present a comprehensive and nuanced portrayal of your extensive experience and diverse skill set.

Objective:

Start with a clear and concise objective that states your intention to secure a full-time or part-time position as a private chef for a family or individual who appreciates a wide variety of healthy organic food.

Cuisine Styles:

List the cuisine styles you are familiar with and can confidently prepare. This provides potential employers with an understanding of your culinary expertise.

Education and Culinary Training:

Include your culinary school education, apprenticeships, and any special courses you have taken, particularly those related to nutrition and specialty diets.

Attributes:

Highlight important attributes such as discretion, adherence to confidentiality, and being a team player. If you have experience working on yachts or private jets, mention that as well.

Work Experience:

List your work experience starting with your current or most recent position. Include the job title, client name, location, and a brief description of your responsibilities. Focus on your prior private chef work as it is highly valued for potential clients.

Additional Experience:

Highlight any additional experiences like stagiaire positions in gourmet restaurants or special courses you have taken, such as Thai cuisine or sushi. This demonstrates your commitment to continuous learning and expanding your skill set.

Short Bio:

Write a concise bio that includes personal information, a brief background about where you were born, your inspiration to become a chef, and your passions. Only include specific restaurants if they are particularly relevant to your career or if a chef there inspired and mentored you.

Photo and Reference Letters:

Include a professional photo of yourself in a clean, ironed chef coat, preferably with a friendly smile. Reference letters from previous employers and clients should also be included to vouch for your skills and work ethic.

Reference List:

Provide a reference list with the names, contact information and if it’s not directly from the client the job titles (Executive Chef, Owner of restaurant, House Manager, Personal assistant, Butler) of the individuals who provided the references for the jobs listed on your resume. Make sure to include info on which job each reference relates to.

Food Photos:

Including a select few high-quality photos of dishes you have prepared in the past it’s a great way to showcase your skills and creativity, it can also include photos from restaurants you have worked for. If you have additional food pictures on Instagram or other public social media, please provide addresses.

Awards and Charitable Involvement:

If you have received any awards or have been involved in charitable organizations related to the culinary field, mention them briefly.

Remember to keep your resume focused, relevant, and tailored to the specific job you are applying for. Don’t worry if the resume turns into 3-5 pages, clients want to know all your experience going all the way back to your very first chef job.
