Plant-Based & Vegan Private Chefs
Hire a vegan, vegetarian or whole-food plant-based private chef for a household that eats this way every day. Private Chefs Inc. has placed specialist chefs since 1995, from strict protocol kitchens to families where one principal is plant-based and the rest of the table is not.

WHOLE-FOOD PLANT-BASED KITCHENS
Private Chefs Inc. (PCI) places vegan, vegetarian and whole-food plant-based private chefs for households that eat this way every day, not as an occasional menu. Our candidates cook across the full range: raw preparations, macrobiotic and Ayurvedic frameworks, oil-free and low-sodium programs, fermentation, sprouting and legume-forward cooking. Provisioning is part of the role, so a plant-based chef builds standing relationships with farmers markets, CSA growers and specialty purveyors before the first service.
ALLERGEN CONTROL & CLEAN SUBSTITUTION
Plant-based households often layer a second restriction on top of the first: gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, low-FODMAP or histamine-aware. Our chefs run dedicated boards, separate oils and labelled storage to keep cross-contamination out of a shared kitchen, and they rebuild flavor with technique rather than substitutes. Where the diet is driven by a medical protocol, longevity plan or training load, PCI also places anti-aging and nutritional therapy chefs and performance nutrition chefs.

PESCATARIAN & MIXED-DIET HOUSEHOLDS
In most placements one principal is plant-based and the rest of the table is not, and in many the line sits at fish: pescatarian households that keep seafood and caviar on the menu while the rest of the kitchen stays plant-forward. The chefs we place build a single menu spine and branch it: one sauce, one technique, a protein swap at the pass, so nobody eats a second-tier plate. The same discipline applies when a household also keeps kosher or halal standards, or when the family travels between residences and the produce supply changes with the destination.
Types of Plant-Based, Vegan & Pescatarian Private Chefs We Place
Plant-based is not one diet. A household running a whole-food protocol for cardiac health needs a different chef from a family that eats vegan four nights a week and entertains omnivores on the fifth. These are the roles we fill most often, and the reason we scope the diet before the search rather than after.
Vegan Private Chefs
Fully plant-based kitchens with no animal products in service or provisioning.
Whole-Food Plant-Based Chefs
Oil-free, low-sodium, minimally processed cooking built for a medical protocol.
Vegetarian & Pescatarian Chefs
Households that keep dairy, eggs or fish inside an otherwise plant-forward kitchen.
Raw & Living Food Chefs
Dehydration, sprouting, fermentation and cold preparation at fine-dining level.
Macrobiotic & Ayurvedic Chefs
Seasonal, constitution-led cooking for principals following a defined framework.
Allergen-Protocol Chefs
Gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free and low-FODMAP layered on top of a plant-based menu.

How Much Does a Plant-Based Private Chef Cost?
A plant-based private chef is compensated on the same tiers as any senior private chef, because the constraint raises the difficulty rather than lowering it. Expect $135,000 to $145,000 for a professional chef running daily service in one residence, $150,000 to $190,000 for a senior estate chef with entertaining, travel or a second property, and $200,000 to $250,000 for an executive chef directing a program across several estates. Households that pair the diet with a medical or longevity protocol usually sit in the upper half of that range, since the chef is executing against a physician’s plan rather than a preference. Ingredient budgets run higher than a conventional kitchen because the sourcing is seasonal and specialty led.

30 YEARS OF SPECIALIST PLACEMENT
With three decades of leadership and placement hubs in Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, Palm Beach and Washington D.C., PCI represents career professionals with a minimum of eight years of elite experience, including chefs who built plant-based programs in fine dining before moving into private service. Compensation follows the same tiers as any senior estate role; our salary guidelines set the benchmarks.

Plant-Based Private Chef FAQs
How much does a plant-based private chef cost?
The same tiers as any senior private chef: roughly $135,000 to $145,000 for daily service in one residence, $150,000 to $190,000 for a senior estate role with travel or entertaining, and above $200,000 plus for an executive chef running several properties. The specialty does not discount the role, it narrows the field of candidates. Full detail in our salary guidelines.
What is the difference between a vegan chef and a whole-food plant-based chef?
A vegan chef excludes animal products and can still cook with refined oils, sugar and processed substitutes. A whole-food plant-based chef also removes oil, refined sugar and processed ingredients, usually because a physician set the protocol. The two skill sets overlap but they are not interchangeable, and hiring the wrong one is the most common failure in this category.
Can one chef cook for a plant-based principal and an omnivore family?
Yes, and most of our placements are exactly that. The chef builds one menu spine and branches it: shared sauces, shared technique, a protein swap at the pass. Nobody eats a second-tier plate and the kitchen does not run two services.
Do you place raw, macrobiotic or Ayurvedic chefs?
Yes. These are narrow specialties with a small national bench, so the search takes longer than a conventional placement and we scope the framework in detail before presenting anyone. Candidates are asked to cook to that framework during the working trial, not just describe it.
How do you handle cross-contamination in a shared kitchen?
Dedicated boards, knives and storage, separate oils and fryers, labelled containers, and a documented order of preparation so plant-based dishes are built before anything else touches the surfaces. Where a household also carries a celiac or nut allergy, the same discipline covers both.
Can a plant-based chef also keep kosher or halal?
Yes. Plant-based cooking removes most of the conflict, and the remaining work is certification of ingredients, separation of stations and holiday menus. We place chefs trained for observant households, covered on our kosher private chef page.
Can your chefs handle gluten-free, soy-free and nut-free at the same time?
Yes. Layered restrictions are normal in this category. The chef rebuilds flavor with technique, acidity, fermentation and seasoning rather than reaching for substitutes, and documents every ingredient so a substitute or a travelling household can reproduce the plan.
What is a holistic private chef?
A term the market uses for a chef who cooks against a wellness plan rather than a menu, usually set by a physician, nutritionist or longevity clinic. In practice that is what we place as an anti-aging and nutritional therapy chef, and the food is measured against the protocol, not against preference.
Where do plant-based chefs source produce?
Standing relationships with farmers markets, CSA growers and specialty purveyors in the household’s area, built before the first service. When a family moves between residences, the chef rebuilds that supply chain at the destination ahead of arrival rather than shopping blind on day one.
Do you place chefs for medically supervised plant-based protocols?
Yes. Cardiac, autoimmune, oncology support and longevity programs all appear in our placements. The chef works to the plan set by the medical team and reports against it, which is a different job from cooking vegan food well. See performance nutrition for the athletic side of the same discipline.
Are your plant-based chefs formally trained?
Every candidate we represent carries a minimum of eight years of elite experience, and many built plant-based programs in fine dining or in restaurants with a dedicated vegan tasting menu before moving into private service. Plant-based certification is treated as a supplement to that record, not a substitute for it.
How quickly can you present candidates?
24-48 hours for a defined role, longer for raw, macrobiotic or Ayurvedic searches where the national bench is small. Every candidate presented has already cleared references, background screening and a working trial under our vetting process.
Where do you place plant-based private chefs?
Nationwide, with hubs in Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, Palm Beach and Washington D.C. Demand concentrates in Los Angeles, the Bay Area and New York, and we relocate candidates for the right household. Full coverage on our service areas page.
